This is a recipe for Heavenly Halibut, broiled halibut fillets topped with mayonnaise, butter, green onion and Parmesan cheese. A rich combination that’s a beautiful topping for sweet mild flavored halibut. If you’re looking for easy fish dinner recipes, give this one a try. It’s delicious in a very heavenly way.
Inspiration for This Baked Halibut with Mayonnaise
Years and years…and years ago, Black Eyed Pea restaurant came on the scene as an attractive and affordable destination for office lunches with coworkers.
We seemed to choose the restaurant at least once a week. Homestyle menu options and classic comfort food were a natural draw for that culinary era of the 80’s.
Those cheesy casseroles, chicken fried steaks and homestyle meatloaf could also be an issue for the waist line. So I quickly because acquainted with a white fish entree on the menu.
And while not perfectly what one would call clean eating, it made a healthier lunch selection.
I tried for years to recreate the dish, somewhat unsuccessfully, that is until I found this version.
Although the recipe didn’t reference the restaurant, it comes very close to what I had there. Halibut topped with a lemony Parmesan mayonnaise topping, is truly a delicious and easy fish dinner recipe.
This recipe will work on other white fish fillets. Cod would be a good choice. Cod is a thinner fillet, so cooking time will need to be adjusted.
Read your seafood labels
Being landlocked the “seafood” section of my recipe data base is slim compared to the beef and chicken recipes. It consists mostly of shrimp recipes.
For this recipe I purchased a package of frozen halibut fillets which were labeled “wild caught.”
Once at home, and after closer inspection, the label also read that the filets were processed in China. And didn’t indicate where it was “wild caught.”
I wasn’t very happy to read that. I would have been happier reading about a fish that was wild caught in the Pacific waters off the US coast and cleaned, vacuum sealed and frozen at a nearby American processing center.
My point? Read the fine print on labels to insure you know where your food comes from for the ultimate fresh flavor and perfectly tender and flaky in texture.
And if you’re looking to purchase the absolute best pristine frozen halibut from Pacific waters, check out Sitka Seafood Market. A company that supports small family fisherman and delivers fresh Alaskan seafood directly to your doorstep. And you’ll find some great recipes for those frozen halibut fillets.
Disclaimer: I have received free product from Sitka Salmon. My opinions about the quality of their products are my own.
This broiled halibut recipe is a wonderful addition to our weeknight meal menu. It’s easy, ready in less than thirty minutes, delicious and a great way to add seafood to your weekly meal plan.
I’ve had the recipe for a very long time and just realized I hadn’t shared it with my readers. Enjoy.

Hi Christine. So glad you both liked the recipe and I really appreciate you taking the time to write a review with a star rating.
I also added garlic, pepper, dried parsley a few extra dashes of hot sauce and onion powder. Very good!!
Excellent topping that didn’t overpower the mild fish. My new go to. Thanks!
Wonderful! Thanks for the note and taking the time to let everyone know!
Delicious and easy! Paired with Asparagus and red potatoes,
Excellent! I am not a great cook and it worked for me!
I’ve been cooking Heavenly Halibut for quite some time now and it’s my favorite method for white fish.
I’ve also used it on cod and rockfish and I always receive lots of compliments from everyone I’ve served it to.
Hi Peter. Thanks so much for taking the time to chime in. It’s a popular recipe and so glad it’s a favorite of yours. Make it a delicious day. Lea Ann
Looks super yummy. Cant wait to make it. Would cod work with this recipe
Hi Cherie. Yes, cod will work for this recipe. I highly recommend finding a thick pice of cod. Some fillets are so thin and would cook too quickly in the oven.
Heavenly Halibut is well named. We love it. The cheese miixture is v good on salmon too
This is delicious and affordable. I tried it on salmon too yum!
Just as advertised…Heavenly taste and texture…I would make it again..I’m also going to try it on salmon!
So glad you liked the recipe and thanks for taking the time to write a review. I have not done so, but.many readers have indicated they were going to try it on salmon, but have not seen comments on results. Thanks again the the note.
This is the most delicious halibut recip ever!!
We love love love this recipe! My sis brings halibut from AK every year (spoiled!) and to be honest, I’m not a huge halibut fan— mostly because until now, I didn’t have a recipe that worked! This is quick and easy! And delicious!!! Thank you!
So delicious! I tried it on salmon the next day 😋
It was so delicious. We had Halibut twice in a week. Simple recipe but so good, so good
Can u make this in the air fryer or on the grill?
I’ve never grilled or used the air fryer for this recipe, but I’m sure both methods would be easily adaptable with adjusted cooking times.
I cheated so much on this one! Thought I had basmati on hand, nope. Ended up using a pouch of 90 second white rice, sprinkled a little grated parm & salt & pepper on it while plating. Live in suburban Boston but skipped on the $12.99/lb fresh Cod and bought $5.99/lb Pollock. Bought a bag of “Insta Ceasar” salad. Cut some chives from the garden to top the parm sauce on the fish. “Voila”. Served with a couple of lemon pieces to squeeze. It was delicious, quick, & easy. A pound of fish ended up being a lot for the two of us, will try for .75 lb next time, (just hate to try and store leftover fish thinking someone will actually eat it later in the week, lol). Anyway we toughed it out and ate it all, no leftovers except one dressed serving of Ceasar salad. Thanks for the terrific, (and quick!) recipe.
Wonderful recipe!
I’m not really a fish lover, but this recipe is THE BEST! This is a restaurant quality dish!!!
I have made it with several different white fish (most often tilapia).
Quick to make and BIG HIT!
Made it with halibut my hubby caught in Alaska last August – ate it! – it was Absolutely delicious! Thank you for the recipe. Of course, I doubled the sauce and served it with my mom’s green onion sour cream potatoes casserole and green beans (perfect combo). My husband said “please save this recipe”.
Excellent recipe. Easy to follow. Taste is truly heavenly. My go to recipe for halibut and I have tried others
So simple it’s hard to believe it’s as delicious as it is! Couldn’t find halibut so made it with cod.
Perfect flavor. I add some panko to stop the sauce from running off the fish. It works great and doesn’t later the taste. We love this.
Delicious!! love this recipe
