My feet hurt, my legs hurt, my back hurts and my arms hurt…but we’re moved. I’d say we’re about half unpacked and I must admit, I felt a a little bit of normalcy creep back into our lives when the cable guy showed up and connected us to the outside world with television and internet service. Nope, I didn’t enjoy being unplugged for three days.
During the move, routine was out of the question, this past week reintroduced us to the fast food circuit. Lunches have consisted of Wendy’s burgers, McDonald’s Filet-0-Fish, Rubio’s Fish Tacos, Chick-Fil-A nuggets and a deli sandwich here and there. Feeling sorry for myself after a day of hard labor even found McDonald’s french fries in my hand…OMG they tasted so good. My friend Cauleen saved our dinner lives by catering in homemade meatloaf and chicken pot pie. Bless her heart for much needed comfort food home cooked meals.
I’m pleased to say the new kitchen has opened for business and cleaner eating is in our future. A simple breakfast sandwich made of toasted Rudi’s Organic Bakery whole grain bread, smashed avocado, home-grown tomatoes, bacon and over easy egg has never tasted better. And yes, I’m eating it with an antique infant’s silver fork. I’m sure our flatware will show up soon.
And nothing makes you feel more welcome than your neighbor delivering homemade oatmeal raisin cookies. I don’t even like cookies but these things are incredible. I must get her recipe. They’re the best I’ve ever tasted.
Even though we feel like squatters in our new living room, did I mention that I love the new place? LOVE it. Right now all we have is a couple of camp chairs to sit on, a pile of unpacked boxes and barstools that were too tall for the new counter. And I must say, I’m smitten with the new rug we picked out for the new couch. Coming soon: pictures that include furniture.
