On our foodie field trip, generously hosted by North Denver Sausage, not only were we given the grand tour of their sausage making operation, we were also treated with a buffet of Italian Cuisine. A big hotel pan of steaming hot sausage, potatoes and bell peppers most certainly caught my attention. Such a simple combination, a classic Italian combination, and one so delicious, I wondered why I’ve never served this at home.
It couldn’t be easier to prepare and it’s simply seasoned with Italian Seasoning. Not to mention, only one pan to clean up. I made this just as it was served at the sausage event and tour. I’d love to add some sliced onions to this mixture next time. And please note, a deglaze of white wine brings a special touch to this meal. How to deglaze? After the sausage has browned a bit, before you add the potatoes and bell peppers, simply pour in a couple good glugs of white wine. Stir until white wine is almost disappeared, scraping up bits from the bottom of the pan. Add the bell peppers and potatoes and continue to cook per instructions.
One skillet Italian Sausage, bell pepper and potato meal.
- 4 medium potatoes cleaned and bad spots removed
- 1 Tablespoon vegetale oil
- 1 pound Italian sausage broken into chunks, or links cut into bite sized pieces
- 1/4 cup White wine
- 1 Green Bell Pepper cleaned and cut into bite sized pieces
- 1 Orange or Yellow Bell Pepper cleaned and cut into bite sized pieces
- 1 Tablespoon Italian Seasoning blend
- 1 pinch red pepper flakes
Cut potatoes in large bit sized pieces. In a large skillet, add potatoes and cover with water. Bring to a boil and cook until par-boiled, about 10 minutes. Drain potatoes in a colander and wipe pan dry.
Return fry pan to stove top and heat over medium high heat. When hot, add oil. When oil is hot, add the chunks of Italian Sausage and brown. Deglaze with the white wine. Pour wine into skillet with sausage and stir constantly scraping browned bits from bottom of skillet. When wine has almost disappeared, add bell pepper and cubed potatoes.
Season with Italian Seasoning and salt and pepper to taste. Fry until everything is nice and tender.
Finish with a pinch of red pepper flakes.
