After my favorite, the BLT, this comes in 2nd place as the best sandwich I’ve ever had. And in spite of it’s gangly appearance, it really was easy to eat. Not too messy at all. You see, the photographer decided to take artistic liberties and stack the two half sandwiches on top of each other….and…well…
Here’s what you’ll need to build this sandwich. Iceberg lettuce, deli shaved ham, peperoncini, sharp cheddar, and tomato. (Mayo and Honey Wheat Bread not pictured.)
Let’s build that sandwich.
I started with Panera Honey Wheat bread, which I asked to be thick sliced. This is the bread they use for their Tuna Salad Sandwiches that I love so much.
Smear the bottom slice with generously with mayonnaise. I used Best Foods.
Top with some Boar’s Head deli sliced ham.
Top with a couple slices of Tillamook Sharp Cheddar Cheese. At this point place under broiler until cheese starts to melt. This is where the “build that sandwich” photos stop. I had to act quickly. Handling tomatoes, grilled pineapple and juicy peperoncini equal messy fingers that don’t touch cameras.
To finish the sandwich, place some grilled pineapple slices over the hot cheese, add a slice or two of tomato, a couple of peperoncini that you’ve sliced open so they’ll lay flat and top that with some iceberg lettuce and top with another slice of bread. Devour.
